Provide 12-16 ounces of water for the test.
Provide water that has not been treated - i.e. water softened. Filtering is OK if you use a screen filter not a treatment filter (like reverse osmosis).

tests are performed for EC (electrical conductivity), pH and alkalinity (ppm of Calcum BiCarbonates - this is not pH -- the pH of water can be alkalinic or acidic, but the alkalinity is different, sometimes referred to as "hardness")
